Mindful Self-Compassion 4-hour Retreat

This retreat will provide an introduction to Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC).  MSC is an empirically-supported training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Based on groundbreaking research by Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care, and understanding. 

Self-compassion can be learned by anyone, and it provides emotional strength and resilience, allowing us to admit our shortcomings, motivate ourselves with kindness, forgive ourselves when needed, relate wholeheartedly to others, and be more authentically ourselves. Rapidly expanding research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing, less anxiety, depression, and stress, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and satisfying personal relationships. And it’s easier than you think. 

No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required for this retreat. The day will be a mix of short talks, experiential exercises, discussion, and several meditations. The exercises include an outdoor sense and savor walk and a compassionate body scan relaxation. Please bring a small snack to enjoy for a food savoring exercise (for example: fruit, granola bar, cut vegetables, light sandwich). Lunch is not provided during this retreat. Lying down or sitting on the floor for some of the exercises and meditations is an option. Mats, blankets, and bolsters will be available. Chairs will also be available for all exercises and meditations.

Everyone is welcome. MSC is compatible with a wide range of religious and spiritual orientations, and with having no religious or spiritual orientation.
