This exhibition documents environmental and social changes caused by gold extraction. The artists aim to contribute to our understanding of the natural and social world and of struggles for environmental and social justice. They work in collaboration with communities and with the Catholic Diocese of Quibdó, Colombia.  The Community of St. Joseph is a sponsor of this project.

Mary Kelsey is a visual artist whose paintings and drawings have been exhibited in New York, Boston and other cities. She has an undergraduate degree in anthropology from Stanford and a graduate degree in painting from the Museum School, Boston. She was a Fulbright research fellow in Central America.

Steve Cagan is a photographer whose work documents people’s resistance to threats to their dignity, freedom and security. He has written and spoken about these issues in Latin America and the US and, with his wife Beth Cagan, coauthored a book about Salvadoran refugees in Honduras. Steve has a degree in history and has taught at Rutgers, Case, and other universities. He was a Fulbright research fellow in both El Salvador and Colombia.
